Chevron is a Fortune 15 U.S. energy corporation operating at the forefront of the oil and gas industry with a mission to drive clean energy innovation. Our stakeholders were our the Renewable Energy team, who are responsible for identifying and acquiring customers who are interested in low-carbon fuel adoption.

The Renewable Energy team spends 3+ hours manually scouring the web for key data that would indicate the likelihood of a company’s adoption of RNG solutions. Inaccurate data and fragmented information limits team efficiency. Our goal was to automate and streamline their research process, and provide supportive tools to quickly identify high-potential partnerships.

We designed an innovative web scraper that extracts all relevant information for the team’s set sustainability points of analysis alongside an organized, interactive dashboard that summarizes key insights.


With our tool, research time is reduced from 4 hours to less than 35 minutes, making the process 7x faster. Data is extracted with a 95% accuracy rate, resulting in high client satisfaction.

While our goal is to streamline our users' research process, we understood that automation is just one piece of the puzzle, not the whole solution. Before starting on design iterations, we defined clearer product goals that fully aligned with our client's needs.

Our initial MVP included automated data extraction after user search and a dashboard displaying actionable insights, with comprehensive analysis with LLMs to summarize key sustainability indicators. Additionally, we were tasked with implementing Chevron's CNG Adoption Scoring system which indicates company likelihood of adopting CNG, and thus making them a high-potential partner.


After our research, we decided to pitch an additional feature for company comparison to further aid with partnership identification, which our client highly appreciated.

During our early design stages, we explored 14 layout and data display options to balance quick scannability with the depth needed to meet diverse data requirements that guide user decisions. With research of the Chevron's partnership scoring system, we brainstormed methods in making this a standout feature to aid the creation of comparison tools and metric isolations, going further beyond the initial client brief.

As we proposed our various layouts and got client approval on user flows, we also conducted 3 usability tests with 3 analysts of the Renewable Energy team to identify more opportunities to increase efficiency and test the navigability of our product thus far. Through feedback, we refined our features while introducing new elements such as specific visualizations for different categories of data, filtering systems, guided pop-ups, and stylized PDFs for exporting data.

I designed a loading animation that brings both excitement and feedback during the web scraping process. Created in Adobe Illustrator and After Effects, this progress visualization helps our users manage their time between research tasks. Our clients loved this user-centric and fun touch, and it was implemented into our final product.

Compared to sifting through hundreds of long PDFs, reports, and news articles, our product simplifies and centralizes all key and relevant information into one bento grid design with expandable containers providing more detail. Company adoption scores and key metrics are placed at the forefront, and potential partnerships can be identified efficiently in one scan. I implemented clear data visualizations, embedded sources in hover states, and sustainability leader contacts so our users can quickly assess validity and facilitate discussions.

We added filtering systems so users can view companies with the highest likelihood for CNG adoption or assess partnerships based off individual metrics, guiding informed decision-making and reducing cognitive overload. Our in-product tab configuration allows users to dive deep into saved reports without cluttering their browser, separating research from other work tasks.

Easy-to-interpret visualizations of data allows users to view isolated metric requirements of saved company reports to support their prioritizations. Charts are expandable and give users insight into how adoption scores are calculated, providing a transparent view of how well a company may align as a partner and highlighting patterns among companies.
